Occasionally, I do some literature search and/or write some notes to help friends. Below here are some of them.
Advice to Graduating Seniors (from Mr. T Boone Pickens)
Indians should read the open letter to this year’s graduating seniors in America written by Mr. T Boone Pickens, a billionaire oilman from Oklahoma, USA. He told them, “There’s more opportunity for success today than ever. America remains the greatest country in the world. There’s plenty of opportunity to go around.” He did not tell them that they were not suitable for jobs like my older Indian friends in high positions do. He did not tell them that they would not get jobs. He did not say that technology is taking jobs and they will have no opportunities. He cautioned young people lest they move on aimlessly by stressing, “a fool with a plan can beat a genius without one.” He asked graduates to do analysis and more importantly action.
Something very important for young Indians, “Don’t look to government to solve problems.” “The strength of this country [America] is in its people.” Such advice should be given to Indian graduates also. He had other gems for young people. There is an important lesson in Boone’s message to older people --- do not hold the young people back just because you were threatened by change.
